Letters to the Editor

Friday, September 15, 2017

The idea of a global ideological battle between our democracy and communism (Russia and China) has preoccupied our leadership since World War II. While this has been important and must continue to get our attention, smaller radical ideologies have emerged with very real and dangerous consequences. They are: (1) North Korea’s thermonuclear weapon and intercontinental ballistic missile and its insane intent to use them, and (2) radical Islam and its global spread, particularly in the Mideast and in the European Union.

This is in reply to the article “Jim Thorpe revisits parking ban ordinance,” dated May 12, 2017.

My neighbor posted a no parking sign in front of her house and then ordered me not to park there.

For 50 years, there was no problem, as we were parked on the roadside right of way.

My neighbor stated that I was on her property. I reminded her that she had her property surveyed and I wasn’t on her property. It should have ended there. Yet she continues to claim that I am on her property.

Dear Editor,

My name is Tristan Stano and I am a resident of Carbon County. I feel that recycling in the state of Pennsylvania should be made mandatory. Recycling benefits our state by providing jobs and decreasing pollution. Yes, it might be time consuming, but it is for the better for our state and our planet.

Who are you the champion of, Mr. Trump?

You claim to be the champion of the American middle class. You stack the deck against investors in Atlantic City. You refuse to pay the small-business people who built your casinos, and this causes them to go out of business. You try to take property from poor people by eminent domain so that you can built a parking garage for the rich people who come to your casinos. This is really helping the middle class.

Wiping away “crocodile tears” while speaking about children killed in mass shootings, President Obama announced an executive order for more gun control.

What most Americans don’t know is at the time of his press conference, the president was petitioning the Supreme Court to reject a new law that would further restrict abortions in Texas; no press conference and tears for these “millions” of innocent murdered victims, right, Mr. President?

Dear Editor,

While I usually try to avoid reading Ann Coulter's column, the headline "A Culture of Child Rape" caught my eye.

Coulter asserts "There's a cultural acceptance of child rape in Latino culture that doesn't exist in even the most dysfunctional American ghettos."

I find this statement to be racist and misinformed.

Dear Ms. Gouger,

Thank you for keeping your readers informed of the effects of the proposed pipeline that PennEast/UGI wants to force upon Carbon County. The two front-page articles that appeared in the July 24 edition of the Times News cause us to empathize with the property owners who must fight to preserve the homes and land that they love.

All residents of Carbon County are threatened by this project whether or not PennEast/UGI is planning to take their personal property. Our health and safety is threatened by the very real possibility of gas leaks and explosions.

There is no doubt in my mind that what Donald Trump is preaching is true, and he is a true "capitalist." This scares the hell out of this progressive socialist movement now trying to destroy the American dream.

Anybody who can't see what has been going on for the past six and a half years in this country, being led by Obama, has to be blind to reality, and cannot possibly understand that this present administration is trying its best to turn America into a socialist country, where government will be completely in control of our lives.

Dear Editor,

What's wrong with the Republicans in the Legislature on Capitol Hill? Don't they want a reasonable annual budget?

I am a staunch Democrat and was seriously thinking of changing party affiliations.

Me? Not me!

I thought the GOP, Grand Old Party, stood for conservatism, PRO life, not PRO death and good ol' American apple pie and motherhood.

Fellow citizens, let's support our governor the honorable Tom Wolf from a bipartisan supporter.

Here we go again another mass murder by some nutcase. They happen so often I hardly pay attention anymore. I will pay more attention when the system gets rid of these nuts instead of putting them in cages and baby-sitting them.

But we're too civilized for capitol punishment, and the excuses are: insane, too young, drugs, TV or movies influence. As the list gets bigger so does the money made.

Sometimes you hear of a nutcase being executed after 20 years or so on death row. The only victim here is taxpayers and kin of who the nutcase murdered.
