Since the early 1990's, the Schuylkill League has held its cross country championships on a 3.1 mile course at Tuscarora State Park in Barnesville.
The course appeared to be an ideal location, as its natural trails were well suited for distance runners, and it was self-contained, which seemed to provide better safety. It was also a neutral site, available to any runners who wanted to work out on it during park hours.
To be ranked first in your district or state is a huge accomplishment for any high school team.
But, the Lehighton field hockey squad took those honors to another level this week when the Indians were ranked first in the entire nation according to www.hockeypower.com.
"I am not one for rankings or polls, but it is cool to see that someone has recognized the hardwork and effort that the Lehighton Field Hockey is putting in," said Lehighton head coach Shawn Hindy. "Now, we have to keep working hard and prove this is where we should be!
Pleasant Valley picked up a pair of wins, while Lehighton came out on the short end of Mountain Valley Conference cross country openers on Tuesday.

Lehighton lost all four of its MVC Cross Country matches - two on each side - to the Pocono Mountain schools Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Alli Sabol and Freshman Emily Oldt did the best for the Lehighton. The two finished sixth and seventh respectively on the girls' side. No times were reported other than the fourth-place finisher from Pocono Mt. East.
