Palmerton Area School District announces that schools will have early dismissal on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 23, Nov. 24 and Nov. 25.
Secondary students will dismiss at 11 a.m. Elementary students will dismiss at 11:45 a.m. and all morning and afternoon kindergarten students will attend the morning session. Schedule for kindergarten students will be at 8:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, the Carbon County Emergency Food Pantry, serving eligible individuals and families from Palmerton, Towamensing Township, Lower Towamensing Township, and Bowmanstown, will be open at the Community Service Building, 217 Franklin Ave., Palmerton.
There will be a parents' meeting for the Class of 2010 All Night Party on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in the high school library. All senior parents and guardians are invited to attend. Parents are asked to get the word out about the meeting to other senior parents and encourage them to attend.
The Palmerton Area Library is grateful to the Teen Advisory Group and its advisors for the "Who-dunnit" Mystery and Halloween Party presented at the library during Halloween week. The children and parents who attended had a great time enjoying the play, games, coloring contest and snacks. The Teen Advisory Group meets at the library on the first Wednesday of each month after school and is open to all teens in grades 7-12. They are currently working on remodeling a portion of the library for a new teen area to be used for meetings and activities of the group.
A free community supper will be held from 5-6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 10, at St. John's United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. All are invited for a free meal and fellowship.
Newspaper drive
St. John's Lutheran Church will hold its monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Nov. 7. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola, and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.
The Palmerton Area Historical Society will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library. The Revolutionary War troops crossing the Delaware River Christmas night 1776, was destined to become one of the most significant events in the history of our country. Society member, Betsy Burnhauser will present the story and accompanying video "Washington Crossing the Delaware." The program will follow the business meeting.
Palmerton Area Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. all Sundays in November. Take advantage of the extended hours to enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon and learn about the local history of the area. Time is also running out for the feature, "A History of Palmerton Sports."
Bereavement Shares will meet the second Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. in the parish center of Sacred Heart Church, Palmerton, right after the 6:30 p.m. Mass. Anyone who lost a loved one is welcome to join them for an evening.
