With the passing of H.R. 3962 we are on our way to having affordable health care for all American citizens. After opposing things like this for a long time, Ted Kennedy saw the light and pushed for this kind of health care. This can be a Ted Kennedy legacy.
The bones of Olympian Jim Thorpe have been with us for 55 years. Reluctantly, the town had agreed to accept them with the hopes of a major new hospital along with a national football museum - recipes for job creation and tourism.
While this bizarre exchange (a memorial and final resting place for an athletic hero's remains and a town's name) made national headlines, it did little to directly enhance the local economy - since the anticipated hospital and football museum never materialized.

My son and I went to my garage to bring in the trash cans and we heard little cries and the little cries were five small kittens, their eyes barely open. The one little kitten was already dead and the other four were barely alive. What angers me is people who want animals but don't want the responsibility. These kittens now became my problem and expense, I have called many shelters, either I live in the wrong county, they are too full and some just didn't bother to return my calls.
St. Jerome Regional School's annual Chinese Auction was a great financial and social success. Our Home and School Association and school community worked for several months to ensure the success of this important fundraiser. The generosity and support of our parents, friends, sponsors, area businesses and benefactors contributed greatly to the financial success of this event.
On behalf of The Nature Conservancy, I applaud members of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation for their hard work in securing $750,000 for the first land acquisitions at Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge.
I would particularly like to commend Sen. Arlen Specter and Sen. Robert Casey and Rep. Paul Kanjorski for their support of the Cherry Valley appropriation from the Land and Water Conservation fund. Rep. Charles Dent has also been a long-time steadfast supporter of the refuge.
We are grateful to the brave firefighters who worked so hard to contain the fire on Orwigsburg Street, Tamaqua, preventing it from spreading to other houses. A special thanks to Officer Weaver and John Heffelfinger for their bravery.
Thank you to the many friends in the South Ward who called to express their concern for my son and for our loss. The houses still contained many things of value.
Recently, the difficult decision was made to move the last varsity football game from the Jim Thorpe field to Schuylkill Haven. The game was originally scheduled to be played on Friday October 23 at home.
The reasons surrounding this decision were more involved than meets the eye. This letter will serve as an explanation of the issues surrounding this decision as well as the plans to rectify this situation.
