The 10th annual Nativity Open House Display will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, Route 248, Cherryville on Saturday, Nov. 28 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a lovely spiritual free event with refreshments available.
The Slatington Woman's Club will hold its annual Arts Contest. Categories include: youth short story, grades 1 to 12; photography, grades 4 to 12; and student art, grades 1 to 12. The Delaware & Lehigh National Heritage Corridor (D&L) Trail Tenders and the Walnutport Canal Association will be working together next year to restore the grounds in and around the historic Lock 25 also known as Sheckler's Lock on the Lehigh Canal in Walnutport. Cleanups at the site have been organized since late September.
Lock 25 site contains an intact, non-working lock, ruins of the locktender's house and the foundation of the mule barn that was part of the lock complex.
The GFWC-PA Woman's Club of Slatington will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, at St. John's Lutheran Church on Second St., Slatington. The evening's program will feature Dan Stevens, president of the area's Future Focus. All interested area residents are welcome to attend. Club members are asked to bring their donations of any of the following items to be sent to area servicemen in Iraq: cash donation to purchase phone cards; Febreeze spray; or plastic travel soap dishes.

The outdoor ceremony will include the unveiling of a special marker in memory of the late state Sen. James J. Rhoades, who provided the funding for the project. Family representatives, Sen. David G. Argall, and other dignitaries will be on hand for the ceremony. It will be at the corner of Main and Lehigh streets (between the canal and Lehigh River Bridge), Walnutport, at 10 a.m., rain or shine on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The Slatington Library accepts used books – hard back or paperback for adults and children.
