A Thanksgiving Ecumenical service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue. The service is sponsored by the Jim Thorpe Ministerium. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Hinkle of St. John's Lutheran Church, North Street.
Light refreshments will be served following the service.
Office closed
The Jim Thorpe Borough Office will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 26 and 27 in observance of Thanksgiving. It will reopen on Monday, Nov. 30, at 8:30 a.m.
The Jim Thorpe street department's last day for leaf collection will be Fri. Nov. 13. If you have any questions, please call the borough office.
Christmas party
Members of the Phoenix Hose Co. will hold their annual Christmas party on Dec. 4, at the company headquarters. A meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. with the party to follow. Reservations must be made by Nov. 28, by calling, (570) 325-4251 or (570) 952-1164.
Saturday, Nov. 14, will be the final day to donate any children's winter coats that you may have, which will be given to families in need. You may take your coats to St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If you would like to donate but cannot make it this Saturday, call Bonnie Hoffman, (610) 554-3528 and she will make arrangements. The coats will be given away on Saturday, Nov. 21 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Shepherd House Food Pantry at Ebenezer E.C. Church will be open on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. Recipients must reside within the Jim Thorpe Area School District. The pantry is located at 441 Center Ave. in Jim Thorpe. Please call (570) 325-2855 for more information or to volunteer.
St. John's Lutheran Church, South Ave., held its annual Halloween party for the children of the Sunday School this week. The children participated in various games, decorating treat bags and of course the parade of costumes. Prizes were awarded to the following; most original, Emelyn Shirley; spookiest, Timmy Tartaglia; prettiest, Kendra Boger; funniest, Akaya Lacey; cutest, Ave Shafer; and judges choice, Matthew Confer. A special guest for the evening was Saint Peter Muhlenberg.
Friends of the Dimmick Library will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Dimmick Library annex house at 58 Broadway in Jim Thorpe.
The group is currently planning for its fall/winter free community events which will include a program of Irish music on Saturday, Nov. 21, and upcoming "Meet the Author" programs.
Library supporters and book lovers are invited to join the Friends at its meeting or to talk with members about other ways they can get involved to support the library.
